Weekly Greeting - August 7, 2026

I hope you have enjoyed this year’s Summer Concert Series as much as I have!

I love the energy that it brings to worship, and I am so grateful when our church members and friends share their God-given gifts with the congregation.

This Sunday will conclude the Summer Concert Series, but my prayer is that we will continue dreaming.  My prayer is that we will continue to dream about the future of our congregation and all the ways that God will call us to love our neighbors as ourselves.  I pray that we will continue to dream about the ways that God’s Kingdom becomes real on earth when we embody God’s justice and righteousness.

April recently shared a book with the children called God’s Dream written by Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Douglas Carlton Abrams.  It reminds of God’s dreams for the cosmos — sharing, playing, laughing, and forgiving.  It reminds us that each of us carries God’s divine image in us, and that we are all God’s children.  There are several copies of the book available on the Children’s Ministry table between the Main Sanctuary and the Old Sanctuary.  You are welcome to pick one up and take it home as a reminder that God dreams and invites us to dream, too.

Sometimes it feels like the vagaries of the world are moving us farther away from God’s dream rather than closer, but I am convinced that the more fiercely we love, the more generously we give, and the more radically we offer welcome through the power of the Holy Spirit, the more clearly we will be able to see God at work.

I hope you have seen the pictures of last Sunday’s backpack event on social media.  Did you notice the number of people who were smiling and laughing, and the number of generations you could count in some of the pictures?  That looks a lot like God’s dream coming true to me.

Let’s never stop dreaming together!

Mary Beth
