Weekly Greeting - June 26, 2026

I hope that you have been enjoying our Sunday School stories sermon series as much as I have!

I don’t know about you, but there’s only so much information my brain can hold, and sometimes the things that get deleted are the details.  I have to distill these stories that I heard as a child into memorable lessons, and it’s easy to forget their complexity.  It’s easy to forget that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego didn’t just walk into the fiery furnace fully believing that God would save them — they had no idea what was going to happen.  And no one taught me in Sunday School that Jonah was absolutely furious that God spared the Ninevites rather than destroy them.

These Sunday School heroes are much more interesting when we view them as complex characters — humans who were scared, perhaps even afraid.  Humans with bad attitudes and biases, whose hearts were not yet formed into the image of God.

It gives me hope for myself.  God works with whatever I show up with, whether it’s the conviction of David or the belligerence of Jonah.

And I pray that gives you hope, too!

With gratitude for God’s grace,

Mary Beth
