Weekly Greeting - September 26, 2025

This Sunday, September 28, is the final Sunday of our “At the Table” sermon series, and I pray that it has been a meaningful meditation on God’s wide and compassionate invitation to the whole world to feast together.

Our scriptures for Sunday ask us to use our imagination.  What would it look like for the whole of creation to sit around the cosmic banquet table of Christ and eat together? I have always asked my Confirmation classes to ponder this question: If the heavenly banquet includes the opportunity for you eat your favorite food forever and ever, what are you going to order?

The image of the heavenly banquet stirs up our most precious memories of meals shared with family and friends, of food that not only fills but satisfies, and memories of deep and abiding love.  It’s hard to imagine anything better than Thanksgiving meals with my family, and yet the promise of the heavenly banquet is that it will be far more wonderful than we can conceive.

I pray that this Sunday’s worship will bring to mind and heart the very best memories of the very best meals and the very best company around the very best tables, and that we will give glory to God for the greatest meal that is yet to come!

With love and grace,

Mary Beth
