Weekly Greeting - April 24, 2026

What a joy it was to hear the stories of Church Has Left the Building!

I continue to be grateful for the ways that the Holy Spirit puts in each of our hearts the unique needs of our neighbors, and then invites us to be part of meeting those needs – and even more grateful for this congregation’s invitation to our young members to be part of that work as well.

As I mentioned Sunday, the vow of the congregation to a family who brings a child for baptism, or to a person who makes a profession of faith, is to

Proclaim the good news and live according to the example of Christ…

To surround these persons with a community of love and forgiveness, that they may grow in their trust of God, and be found faithful in their service to others…

To pray for them, that they may be true disciples who walk in the way that leads to life.

And that was what you did during Church Has Left the Building.  You lived according to the example of Christ and you surrounded them with a community of love.  And I ask you to continue to pray for them and their families as they grow in their knowledge and love of Christ.

Philosopher John Dewey is reported to have taught that, “We don’t learn from experience…we learn from reflecting on experience,” and so I hope that we continue to reflect — and to help our children reflect — on our experiences of serving others in so many different ways.

And remember that every Sunday, at about 11:30 or so, the church leaves the building to reflect Jesus in the world.

With gratitude,

Mary Beth
