Weekly Greeting - March 13, 2026
We’re halfway through the season of Lent. How’s it going for you?
As usual for me, I started the season with the best of intentions and was then reminded of just how frail human life is. My best laid plans were brought to a screeching halt by one little virus, and I wonder if I’ll be able to get back on track anytime soon.
But that’s sort of the point of Lent — to remind us of just how fragile and limited we are. We seek the illusion of control, which works really well — until it doesn’t. Pretty soon we see just how small we are in the big scheme of things. That can make us feel pretty anxious — or, it can give us a new sense of freedom.
Welcome to a world where we don’t have to be in control, where we don’t have to make sure things work out according to our agendas — our work is to bear witness to the love and compassion of Jesus who trusted in the control and work of God so deeply that he could choose to give up his own life for our sake.
So for the rest of this season I will do my best, but in the end I will thank God that I am not in control and that my agenda does not dictate the direction of the universe.
Grateful for this season with you,
Mary Beth
