Pray for Marcy
Greetings and the grace of God be with you!
On September 30, 2007 in worship, a member of Bethlehem spoke about a prayer concern for Marcy Payne. You might know Marcy or her husband Rob who writes a column in the Williamson A.M. section of The Tennessean every Friday. The name of the article is Everyday is Precious. They are trying to get ABC’s extreme home makeover to come out. We wanted to let the district know about this so we can all be involved in prayer and helping in other ways. Here is what our member wrote to us:
Dear Pastors,
Yesterday I asked for prayer for a lady who has an 8th grade child at GMS. Her name is Marcy Payne. Her husband has a web site created where the videos/petition are for Extreme Makeover. They are a strong Christian family and I think the church family should be aware of what is happening here in Franklin. I spent an hour reading and watching yesterday, what a great example of God's love! I am contacting GMS to see if I can get that community of parents more involved. I have never met Marcy but had heard for years from a girlfriend about what a special person she was and how she worked 24/7 for these animals. When I was working as a RN I took care of a lady at Marcy's stage of ALS also in the home. It was by far the toughest assignment I ever had as a nurse. The scene is so stressful for the caregivers, I can't believe her husband is doing it himself. The family of the lady I cared for couldn't even come into the room because they were unable to bear the stress of the disease on their Mom when she deteriorated to this point. Please share this with Bethlehem, I know that the Payne's will be touched to know we are praying for them.
This was the attached forward from someone else as well:
For those of you who are not familiar with this situation, Marcy Payne helped start Happy Tales Humane, a no-kill animal shelter in Franklin. Marcy was diagnosed in 2000 with Lou Gehrig’s disease, which kills 50% of it’s victims within 3 years. She has chosen to live, and is still doing so 7 years later. She is a mom to 2 children, now ages 13 & 18, and while she is still very much alive, she is a quadriplegic on a ventilator, and lives in a hospital bed in their living room. They have what would otherwise be considered a nice home in Franklin, but it is not at all handicap accessible, and their lives are very difficult. They live on prayer and donations. Rob quit his advertising job to take care of her 24 hours a day (they are one of the best examples I have seen of “for better or worse”) and while they feel lucky that they have not lost their home, they are also certainly not in a position to make needed handicap upgrades. Rob has decided to petition Extreme Home Makeover for help and he is currently working on the video application.
They need thousands of signatures to help stand out from the thousands of other applicants, and right now they have around 12,000. If you have not already done so, if you would consider signing their petition I know they would really appreciate it, and if you would pass it along to anyone else who might be willing to quickly sign, that would be great. It only takes about 30 seconds
